Liverpool were much improved in the second-half but couldn't find a way past Cech in the Chelsea goal.

Chelsea will be very happy with a lead and a clean sheet while Liverpool will be frustrated at not getting an away goal although they will take encouragement from their 2-0 win over the Blues earlier in the season.

The hosts have been the better side overall and Joe Cole's goal was no more than they deserved.

A 1-0 loss would not be a disaster for Liverpool but Rafa Benitez will want a big improvement from his side, whereas Jose Mourinho will be looking for more of the same in the second-half.

14 mins: John Arne Riise pushes forward from left-back adn gets on the end of the ball inside the box on the left but fails to make a decent connection with the ball and Ashley Cole can clear.

8 mins: Chelsea should be in front. Drogba knocks Ashley Cole's cross down into the path as Lampard who powers the ball at goal from 12 yards out but Reina makes a good save. The shot was straight at him though and Lampard will feel he should have done better with the chance.

7 mins: Chelsea have clearly been told to go long at every opportunity but Ashley Cole's ball rolls harmlessly through to Reina.

6 mins: Drogba charges at the Liverpool defence but with four Liverpool players around him, he is tackled and the ball breaks to Jose Reina in the away goal.

Defender Ricardo Carvalho has passed a fitness test on his hamstring injury to return for Chelsea in the Champions League semi-final, first leg at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is without Michael Ballack (knee) and the suspended Michael Essien but Joe Cole and Andriy Shevchenko return to the starting line-up.

Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez opts for two strikers in Dirk Kuyt and Craig Bellamy, with Alvaro Arbeloa in at right-back for Steve Finnan, who has not recovered from a neck problem.

The big surprise is the inclusion of former Chelsea player Bolo Zenden on the left of midfield.
