Middlesbrough boss Tony Mowbray has been named npower Championship Manager of the Month for October, with Burnley striker Charlie Austin taking the Player of the Month award.

Mowbray beat off competition from Millwall's Kenny Jackett and Nottingham Forest's Sean O'Driscoll after Boro recorded five wins and a draw during the month.

The former West Brom chief was quick to share the praise with his players as well as the club's staff.

"It's a recognition of the whole club, not just for me, the players and the coaching staff, but also Avril, who empties the bins and cleans my desk, and Darkey who put the kits out each and every morning," he told the club's official website.

"If they don't do their jobs properly the players will moan and I'll end up arguing with them. But instead everything just works - the players go in at lunchtime and the food is ready, you go to have a cup of tea and the cups are there clean for you."

Austin, meanwhile, scooped the players' award courtesy of his phenomenal scoring form as he notched seven goals in the month to complete a club-record run of netting in eight consecutive matches.

"It's nice to be noticed for your own award and I'm chuffed to bits to get it," said the 23-year-old. "But I've said many times before, if it wasn't for my team-mates I wouldn't be in the position to win this award.

"I'm there in the team to score goals but Tripps (Kieran Trippier) has set up six or seven of my goals and if it wasn't for him and the rest of the lads I wouldn't be getting the opportunities that I have been."
