Northampton Town boss Ian Sampson is hopeful that highly-rated winger Ben Marshall will extend his loan spell at Sixfields from Stoke City.
The 18-year-old Stoke winger's current agreement expires after Saturday's FA Cup first-round tie with Fleetwood.
Sampson told the Northampton Chronicle & Echo: "Ben is a winger, is a good wide player, and we would like to keep him.
"I have spoken to (Stoke manager) Tony Pulis, and he is happy for him to stay with us, and it's now down to the boy.
"I have spoken to Ben as well and he says he's enjoying it here, and he would rather stay with us and be playing first-team football after a week of training.
"So once he has had a chat with Tony, hopefully we will have a decision."
