McLEAN FIRES POSH TO VICTORY

Peterborough kept up their charge for automatic promotion from League One with a 1-0 win at Bristol Rovers

Aaron McLean was alive to fire in a loose ball in the 70th minute and it was all the Posh needed in a game where they were always on top.

Peterborough have now opened up a seven-point lead over MK Dons, who could only manage a goalless draw against relegation-threatened Yeovil.

It might have been worse but for a missed penalty from Yeovil's Gavin Tomlin. The Dons still have two games in hand on Peterborough.

The Dons' draw allowed Millwall to move up to third place as they came from 2-0 down to win 3-2 at Hartlepool through a Neil Harris hat-trick.

Hartlepool looked to be cruising after Anthony Sweeney scored two in three first-half minutes, but Harris responded with goals in the 62nd, 67th and 72nd minutes to give Millwall their fifth win in a row.

Leaders Leicester were held to a 1-1 draw at home to Colchester, needing Paul Dickov's 67th-minute strike to come back from an early Mark Yeates goal, but they nevertheless remain seven points clear in front.

Joe Royle got a rude awakening on his return to Boundary Park as Oldham suffered a 2-0 home loss to play-off chasing Tranmere.

In charge of his first Oldham match in 15 years, Royle watched the Latics fall further away from the top six as they were undone by Charlie Barnett.

The Tranmere midfielder fired in a 10-yard volley in the 56th minute and then won a penalty when he was fouled by Stefan Stam.

Stam walked and Ian Moore drove home the penalty.

Leeds almost threw away a dominant position as they went 3-0 up against 10-man Crewe in the first half to win 3-2.

After Billy Jones saw an early red card, goals from Neil Kilkenny, Luciano Becchio and Robert Snodgrass had Leeds cruising at the break.

But Crewe gave them a scare thanks to a Tom Pope brace in the second half.

Scunthorpe kept up their play-off push as goals from Gary Hooper and Grant McCann, the second a penalty, gave them a 2-0 win over relegation-threatened Brighton, who had Matt Heath sent off late on.

Northampton powered away from the drop zone with an impressive 4-0 win over play-off chasing Stockport.

Adebayo Akinfenwa, Abdul Osman, Luke Guttridge and Scott Vernon were all on the scoresheet.

Andy Butler's goal deep into injury time saw Huddersfield come back from an early 2-0 deficit to snatch a point in a 2-2 draw with Cheltenham.

Leon Constantine and Elvis Hammond put the visitors in a dominant position, but Danny Cadamarteri's first goal since 2007 sparked the revival capped by Butler.

Simon Cox scored a brace and Billy Paynter added a late third as Swindon climbed out of the drop zone with a 3-0 win over Hereford.

Peter Clarke, Damian Scannell and Alan McCormack were all on target as Southend beat Carlisle 3-0, while Mark Bradley's 45th-minute strike was enough for Walsall to win 1-0 at Leyton Orient.
