IRON FLATTEN GILLS

By Jamie Gardner, PA Sport

Scunthorpe extended their lead at the top of Coca-Cola League One to seven points with a 3-1 home win over Gillingham.

The Iron made a good start when Richard Hinds headed in Lee Ridley's 24th-minute cross but the Gills levelled through Matthew Jarvis in the 54th minute after good work by Gary Mulligan on the right.

Namesake Dave Mulligan then restored Scunthorpe's lead in the 65th minute and Ian Morris made sure of the points with a third goal from Jermaine Beckford's pass.

Yeovil climbed up to second as Marcus Stewart's 56th-minute header was enough to beat Swansea.

Junior Agogo's brace ensured Nottingham Forest kept pace with the Glovers, moving into third with a 2-1 win at Chesterfield.

Agogo's first came from a Jack Lester pass (56) and, six minutes later, he stroked in a penalty after he was fouled by Barry Roche.

Aaron Downes pulled one back for the Spireites (67) but Forest held on for the win.

Bristol City moved up one place to fourth with a 2-0 win at Brighton.

Phil Jevons' brace did the damage, the first a volley in the 43rd minute and the second an 84th-minute penalty after Dean Hammond fouled Brian Wilson in the area.

Oldham were the day's big losers, slipping from second to fifth following a 2-1 home defeat to Bournemouth.

The Cherries' goals came in a two-minute period as David McGoldrick put them ahead in the 29th minute and he then laid on a second for Bjarni Vidarsson.

Andy Liddell's penalty on the stroke of half-time gave Oldham hope but Bournemouth ran out victorious.

Rotherham are now eight points adrift at the bottom of the table after losing 3-0 at Northampton.

Kenny Deuchar (15) gave the Cobblers an early advantage and they doubled their lead six minutes later thanks to Mark Hughes' header. Another headed goal, this time from Ian Taylor, wrapped up victory for the home side.

Brentford remain second bottom after a late Steven Schumacher penalty denied them victory at Bradford.

The Bees led through Kevin O'Connor's 48th-minute spot-kick but were pegged back when Bruce Dyer won a penalty for the home side, which Schumacher converted.

Cheltenham's 1-0 home loss to Carlisle kept them in the danger zone as Joe Garner's 15th-minute effort moved the Cumbrians to the cusp of the play-off zone.

Tranmere still occupy sixth despite a 3-1 defeat at Leyton Orient, who were indebted to a brace from Ryan Jarvis for their victory.

Crewe managed to miss three penalties but still won 2-1 at fellow mid-table side Huddersfield.

Ryan Lowe's 42nd-minute spot-kick was saved by Matthew Glennon and Julien Baudet missed both his efforts in the 80th minute after he was ordered to retake his kick.

The Terriers led through Chris Brandon (22) but Michael Higdon's header brought Alex level on the stroke of half-time and Lowe grabbed the winner (69).

Dave Brammer's volley earned Millwall a 1-0 win at Blackpool, while Doncaster beat Port Vale 1-0 thanks to Jason Price's 49th-minute goal.
