Crewe kept alive their dreams of avoiding relegation to the Second Division
with a demolition job on West Brom at The Hawthorns.
Jermaine Wright led the way with a double strike and there were further goals
from David Wright, Seth Johnson and Mark Rivers.
It was always Crewe who held the upper hand and one frustrated Albion fan took
off his club shirt and threw it at manager Denis Smith.
The Hawthorns fans, with Crewe holding the reins, called for Smith to sacked
before booing their team off the field.
Crewe, with just one point in the bag from their three previous outings, began
the rout in the 13th minute.
Teenage defender David Wright grabbed his first senior goal with a terrific
right footer from 25 yards.
It was 2-0 in the 24th minute when Jermaine Wright latched onto a Danny Murphy
pass and scored with a terrific angled drive.
After the break Crewe again wasted no time moving into top gear and they
increased their lead in the 51st minute when Seth Johnson stroked the ball home
after waltzing his way pass Matt Carbon.
It was 4-0 in the 54th minute when Jermaine Wright was on target for the
second time after working a neat one-two with Murphy.
Richard Sneekes scored a consolation goal for Albion with a diving 63rd minute
header.
But it was 5-1 in the 83rd minute when Mark Rivers struck to wrap up a
miserable afternoon for Albion.
