Lee Hughes' bizarre 50th-minute equaliser rescued a point for Albion as the
Division One's out-of-form sides shared the points.
The visitors were trailing to Craig Bellamy's fifth-minute opener when City
defender Matt Jackson inadvertently booted a Kevin Kilbane corner straight up
into the air. It still looked a comfortable take for Andy Marshall but the
England Under-21 keeper somehow let the ball slip through his fingers and Hughes
was on hand to nod home from almost on the line.
Albion had started brightly, nearly going ahead after just two minutes when
Marshall dropped another corner, this time from Richard Sneekes, and Hughes and
James Quinn both had shots blocked on the line before the ball was cleared.
But Norwich hit back, and they scored from their first attack of the game
after the Albion defence was caught woefully short by Peter Grant's long ball
from defence.
Bellamy latched onto the ball and ran half the length of the field before
coolly beating keeper Alan Miller for his ninth goal of the season.
It was the ideal way for the youngster to celebrate his recent call-up into
Bobby Gould's Wales squad for the friendly with Jamaica on March 25.
Norwich could have stretched their lead seven minutes later when Adrian Forbes
headed just over - but Albion always looked dangerous going forward and
Marshall's brave save at the feet of Hughes on 23 minutes was a sign of things
to come.
The visitors totally dominated the early stages of the second-half, and lifted
by their goal, would have grabbed all three points but for Marshall who atoned
for his earlier blunder by excellent saves in one-on-one situations with Quinn
and Hughes.
Norwich weathered the storm but are now without a win in 10 matches and are
still uncomfortably close to the Division One relegation zone
