Two goals from Jason Roberts continued West Brom's march up the First Division
table at the expense of faltering Burnley at Turf Moor.
Roberts struck twice in five minutes shortly before half-time to leave
Burnley, once the leaders, with just two points to show from the last possible
15.
But there was no denying West Brom their right to the points.
The first goal, on 36 minutes, was a beauty - Derek McInnes threading through
a perfect pass for Roberts to race forward, stride past Marlon Beresford and
slam the ball home.
It got worse for Burnley's on-loan goalkeeper Beresford shortly afterwards
when Andy Johnson's pass put Roberts in sight of goal again. His finish, right
foot from 12 yards, was clinical.
Burnley were poor - although their top scorer Ian Moore did force Russell
Hoult into a fine save on the stroke of half-time.
Daniele Dichio wasted a glorious chance to put the game beyond reach early in
the second half when he blasted high with the goal at his mercy just three yards
out.
Desperate Burnley threw on substitute Robbie Blake. But it made little
difference, and Albion could have added to their winning margin had Roberts or
Adam Chambers kept a cool head when chances presented themselves.
Roberts spoiled an otherwise perfect evening by getting booked after a clash
with Burnley's Kevin Ball.
