West Brom Albion midfielder James Morrison has undergone a further operation on his heel injury and is still several weeks away from a comeback.

Morrison has not made a first-team appearance for the Baggies this season after originally having surgery on his heel back in July.

In an attempt to speed up the Scotland international's return to action, the Championship club have sent the 23-year-old for another operation.

Baggies physio Richie Rawlins told the Birmingham Mail: "James has had surgery which we hope will accelerate his recovery.

"Hopefully we will see an improvement in the next few weeks."

The club's sporting and technical director Dan Ashworth expanded on the problem which has prevented Morrison from featuring for Roberto Di Matteo.

Ashworth said: "James started out with a blister which kept him out of the last few games last season, but from there, it's going to be nearly six months out for him.

"The blister went septic and he had an enormous hole in his heel, bigger than a ten pence piece - I've never seen anything like it.

"James has had to have some plastic surgery and some grafting on it and he's just undergone another small operation on it, but hopefully we'll be able to see him back out there doing some running in the next few weeks."
