WATFORD REPORTS 2004-2005

Wolves were held to yet another draw as a miserable Coca-Cola Championship game against Watford ended goalless.

Glenn Hoddle has now watched his side claim nine draws in 14 games since taking over at Molineux and it is this inability to turn one point into three which will surely cost Wolves any hope of reaching the play-offs.

A dire contest appeared destined to end all square from the first whistle as Hoddle's troops lacked the imagination and dynamism to break down a well-organised Watford side all afternoon.

Kenny Miller spurned Wolves' best chance when he failed to hit the target from close range, while striker Hameur Bouazza went closest for the visitors after 28 minutes.

Wolves were marginally the better side, but it would have been an injustice had they won this instantly-forgettable encounter as Watford deserved a share of the spoils for a textbook defensive performance away from home.

A lifeless start to the contest set the tone for the rest of the game.

Lee Naylor's spectacular long-range drive which was well gathered by goalkeeper Richard Lee was as close as Wolves came to a meaningful attack in the first half, before Bouazza's angled drive from the edge of the penalty area fizzed just wide of the target.

It was a similar uninspiring story after the interval - until Carl Cort replaced the ineffectual Kevin Cooper after 55 minutes.

Cort's introduction paved the way for a brief flurry of Wolves pressure which should have resulted in a goal on the hour mark.

Leon Clarke fed Miller with a fine cross from the right but the Scotland international's finish was awry - when it seemed far easier to score.

Clarke then got in on the act with a smart snap-shot which was well blocked by Lee.

Unfortunately for their supporters, Wolves' brief rally was nothing more than a false dawn as the game drifted aimlessly towards its conclusion.
