Burnley ruined Graham Taylor's farewell party with an end-of-season win
against Watford at Turf Moor.
Second-half goals from Andy Payton and John Mullin were the difference between
two well matched sides.
Payton sent Burnley on their way to victory with a 74th-minute header from
Paul Weller's cross and Mullin wrapped things up in stoppage time with a well
taken individual goal.
An open and attractive game created chances for both sides and either could
easily have won.
Burnley started the brighter and Gareth Taylor had two excellent early
chances.
Watford created chances of their own with Lee Cook and Neil Cox both going
close.
The game remained deadlocked at the interval but Watford almost went ahead
through Paolo Vernazza just after the restart.
Both teams continued to push forward in the search for goal and Payton forced
an excellent save from Alec Chamberlain moments before finally heading home.
With the game already in stoppage time Watford's James Panayi forced an
excellent save from Nik Michopoulos.
Play immediately switched to the other end of the field and Mullin sealed
Burnley's win with a fine strike.
