Watford boss Malky Mackay knows he will not be splashing the cash in January but is confident the board at Vicarage Road will continue to back him if the right player becomes available.
Mackay has seen a host of big names sold to balance the books since he took over but his young Hornets side have started the season well and the Scot sees no need for major changes.
"In the main we are dealing with loans but if one came along I felt was going to improve the squad and go straight into the team then the board are able to look at that," he told Radio 5Live.
"There are budgets available but there are restrictions and we have to cut our cloth accordingly.
"But the board have backed me to the hilt and we have to make sure that come January whatever business we do has to be for the good of the club over the next couple of years and is someone who can help us bring the club forward."
