SHRIMPERS MISS OUT ON WHELPDALE

Southend look set to miss out on the signing of Billericay Town's Chris Whelpdale with the winger on the verge of a move to Peterborough.

The 20-year-old had attracted the interest of Shrimpers boss Steve Tilson, but appears to have opted to link up with ambitious League Two Posh.

"I do expect Chris Whelpdale to sign for us, which is great news," Peterborough director of Football Barry Fry told the Evening Telegraph.

"Chris has rejected a League One side to come to us which shows that players believe we are a club on the verge of going places."
