Scunthorpe and Sheffield Wednesday both remain in serious relegation trouble after they played out an entertaining Coca-Cola Championship draw at Glanford Park.
Ian Morris had opened the scoring for the home side with a wonder goal in the first half, before Ben Sahar levelled for Brian Laws' team just after the interval.
Laws, a former Scunthorpe player and manager, will no doubt see this as a missed opportunity for his side to pull clear of the danger zone on his first return to Glanford Park after a decade with the Iron.
The Owls now face Sheffield United on Tuesday night and could be back in the drop zone by then despite a fifth straight draw whilst Scunthorpe will need to win at least three of their remaining four games if they are to avoid an instant return to League One.
Having secured a point in the last minute against Coventry on Tuesday, Wednesday's bid to secure all three here was hampered by the late withdrawal of Mark Beevers with a knee injury.
Cameroon winger Frank Songo'o also limped out of the action during an opening half that saw him create two chances as Morris stole the show.
There was little happening when the former Leeds man picked up the ball inside his own half, before he created some space with a neat turn past Adam Bolder and advanced at pace before leaving Lee Grant flat-footed with a spectacular drive that nestled in the bottom corner.
Neither side deserved the lead at that stage, but Scunthorpe and Morris could have made it two moments later but he drove wide after the ball fell to him inside the area.
Songo'o then opened Wednesday's attacking account with a low drive that skimmed wide of the post, before he saw a shot blocked on the line by Izzy Iriekpen after Deon Burton figured in the build-up.
Songo'o then left the action, strangely walking off the field with his side defending a free-kick as Wednesday laboured and failed in their bid to restore parity before the break.
After their sluggish showing in the opening period, the visitors started the second in superb fashion and were soon level when Sahar pounced with a fortuitous 49th minute goal.
Burton had seen a free-kick cleared by the Scunthorpe wall and Jermaine Johnson's follow-up effort was going wide of the post until Sahar stuck out a leg to divert the ball past Joe Murphy.
Scunthorpe's response was spirited and Grant McCann nearly edged them back in front on the hour, only to see his crossed free-kick cannon back off the woodwork after a touch from Grant.
But Wednesday were now far more cohesive in attack and could have scored a second themselves, but Burton was leaning too far back as he nodded Wade Small's cross over the bar.
Tommy Spurr then produced a fine block to deny McCann from close-range as the game began to open up, with Steve Watson then chancing his arm with a shot from distance that just crept over the bar as both sides probed for an opening that never arrived.
