Sheffield Wednesday kept their hopes of Division One survival alive with this heart-stopping victory over Wimbledon.

Wednesday looked to be coasting it at 2-0 soon after half-time but allowed Wimbledon to pull level before the home side grabbed three valuable points with two late gals.

Wednesday were soon on the attack and a curling 25-yard free kick from Alan Quinn brought out a good save from Kelvin Davis.

That was the signal for a sustained assault on the visitors' goal and Darren Holloway, Peter Hawkins and Neil Shipperley was all called upon to make timely clearances.

Then Quinn wasted another chance by tamely shooting over the bar.

Wimbledon had to soak up a lot of pressure but when they did break out of defence, they looked dangerous Kevin Pressman in the Wednesday goal had to be alert to parry a fierce shot from David Connolly.

Wednesday's pressure finally told five minutes before the interval Michael Reddy collected Lee Bradbury's pass and drilled the ball home.

The second half was barely underway when Wednesday doubled their lead when Lloyd Owusu seized on an error by Wimbledon keeper Kelvin Davis to bundle the ball home.

But Wimbledon quickly put the home side under pressure when Nigel Reo-Coker slipped the ball through to David Connolly, who put the ball away for his 20th goal of the season.

A minute later it was all square as Patrick Agyemang slipped into the Wednesday penalty area and tucked the ball home from close range.

When Owusu was hauled down by Ben Chorley, the Wimbledon midfielder received a yellow card for his pains, as did team-mate Agyemang for time-wasting.

Owusu, after having one header saved, became Wednesday's hero in the 72nd minute when he met Reddy's cross from the right and headed home for his second goal of the game.

Wednesday restored their two-goal advantage 15 minutes from time when Owusu headed down into the path of Bradbury, who steered the ball home.

From then on it was all Wednesday but they couldn't add to their tally, thanks to some desperate Wimbledon defending.
