A goal from Peter Ndlovu 17 minutes from time dented Blackburn's automatic
promotion hopes.
But Rovers still go back to second spot courtesy of the hard-earned point they
picked up in front of Ewood Park's biggest crowd of the season - 26,276.
The home side made the perfect start when Henning Berg headed them in front
from an Alan Mahon cross, but it was a mistake by Berg that led to the Blades'
equaliser.
The Norwegian defender misplaced a headed clearance and Ndlovu gleefully
accepted the opportunity to level the scores.
United, who had beaten Blackburn in Yorkshire earlier in the season, made life
difficult throughout and could not be denied their right to a point.
However, Blackburn will point to the fact that Matt Jansen went within an inch
of putting the game beyond reach in the 65th minute when his shot hit the inside
of a post.
Blackburn had much the better of things after Berg's opener but seemed to lose
their way after winger Keith Gillespie was substituted with concussion.
Former United striker Marcus Bent had a difficult time against his former club
but did manage a couple of on target efforts, which were both dealt with by
Simon Tracey.
United's equaliser came out of the blue and was a goal Berg will have
nightmares about.
But Rovers should have won it at the end when a knockdown by Bent gave Jansen
a chance - but the young striker snatched at the opening and blazed the ball
high.
Blackburn, who have lost only twice in the league since the middle of October,
rarely hit top form but in the main that was down to the aggressive tactics of
Neil Warnock's visiting side.
