Swansea manager Paulo Sousa insists there is room for improvement from his side despite watching them stretch their unbeaten run to nine Coca-Cola Championship games with a victory at Scunthorpe.

Goals from Craig Beattie and Cedric Van der Gun gave the Welsh side a deserve 2-0 win at Glanford Park and the visitors could quite easily have won by a more empathic margin.

Sousa's side are now just two points outside the play-offs and have the makings of a team that can challenge for promotion.

But Sousa refused to be drawn on talk of a top-six finish.

He said: "I'm very happy, but I think we need to score goals and I think we need to be more clinical.

"We played against a team with a lot of motivation. It was important for us to win away again and it was the mentality I wanted.

"We are in the way I wanted us to be but we can still improve. We created a lot of possibilities, we need to take better decisions in the last moment.

"That is something we will work to improve and we can learn a lot from today for the future.

"Last Saturday (in a goalless draw against Blackpool) we created lots of chances to score and today we scored two, but we can still score more."

Scunthorpe came into the game on the back of a 5-1 drubbing at Manchester City in the Carling Cup in midweek, but they had beaten Sheffield United and Newcastle in their previous two home games.

Iron boss Nigel Adkins admitted his side were not at the races and believes the defeat was a reality check.

He said: "We got a good chasing. We knew Swansea were a good footballing side and they demonstrated that today.

"We wanted to play a high tempo and play our game and get in their faces, but we didn't do that.

"Our work rate wasn't sufficient and our quality on the ball wasn't sufficient, it's as simple as that.

"Lets not use an excuse that we played two games at home against Newcastle and Sheffield United and on the Saturday went to Peterborough and on Wednesday we went to Manchester City. Obviously you look at today and we looked drained.

"There was nothing about us, there was no spark and there was no energy. Having said that, we gave two shocking goals away which you should never concede. For all the football they played we gave two poor goals away.

"We played against an exceptional team who worked very, very hard and passed the ball about and we got a good chasing.

"It's a reality check for a lot of people in respect of, maybe some people got carried away.

"For Scunthorpe United to do well, everyone has to work as hard as they can to give themselves an opportunity to have a game of football."
