Leaders West Brom ran amok at second-placed Middlesbrough to claim a 5-0 victory in the Coca-Cola Championship's match of the day.

Northern Ireland midfielder Chris Brunt fired the first of his two goals into the bottom corner from just outside the penalty area in the 17th minute and sent a 35-yard rocket high into the centre of goal just after the half-hour mark before Youssouf Mulumbu headed home Graham Dorrans' left-wing cross.

Roman Bednar and Jerome Thomas added to the score in the final 10 minutes to pile the misery on Middlesbrough, who slipped to their first home league defeat of the season.

Newcastle replace their north-east neighbours in second place following a 3-1 victory against winless Plymouth.

Steven Taylor headed Newcastle into a sixth-minute lead but Karl Duguid fired home from close-range five minutes after the break to equalise.

However, Kevin Nolan headed them back in front on the hour mark and Andrew Carroll added a third late on to preserve Newcastle's 100% home league record.

Jay Simpson swept QPR ahead in the 19th minute at promotion hopefuls Cardiff and doubled his personal tally five minutes before the interval to give the visitors a 2-0 win.

Lee Martin's first goal for Ipswich eased the pressure on manager Roy Keane but it was still not enough to give them their first win of the season in a thrilling 3-3 draw at Doncaster.

Martin fired home 11 minutes from time to give the visitors the lead for the first time in the match but Quinton Fortune ensured Rovers took a share of the spoils

Rookie striker Waide Fairhurst opened the scoring with a superb overhead kick in the 13th minute to add to his midweek debut goal for Doncaster.

Jack Colback and Tamas Priskin got Ipswich's other goals either side of Martin Woods' strike for Doncaster.

Blackpool's highly-rated midfielder Charlie Adam's 19th-minute strike was enough to send Ian Holloway's side to victory at Nottingham Forest, who fell to their third league defeat on home soil this season.

George Boyd's stoppage-time strike gave Peterborough their first victory of the season at home to Reading.

Gylfi Sigurdsson and Simon Church had put the Royals 2-0 up at half-time.

But Craig Mackail-Smith pulled one back three minutes after the restart and Aaron Mclean levelled matters in the 54th minute before Boyd grabbed the winner.

Watford almost also came back from two goals down to take all three points but Dany N'Guessan headed home a stoppage-time equaliser for Leicester.

Matty Fryatt had given the Foxes a 2-0 half-time lead, the first a 20th-minute penalty, but the hosts came back after the break through Danny Graham and Heidar Helguson.

Helguson thought he had won the game for his side in the 77th minute but N'Guessan popped up to snatch a point for Leicester.

Preston came from behind to beat Coventry 3-2 to move up to fourth spot in the table.

Coventry midfielder Sammy Clingan converted a first-half free-kick, firing a stunning 35-yard effort into the top corner to put Chris Coleman's side 1-0 up.

However, the hosts came back after the break thanks to a Chris Brown brace either side of Neil Mellor's strike.

Clinton Morrison volleyed in a late consolation for the visitors.

Grant McCann's stoppage-time goal gave Scunthorpe a well-earned point at Ashton Gate as they ended Bristol City's 100% home record.

The Northern Ireland international, saw his 92nd-minute effort beat Adriano Basso in the City goal after it had looked as though Alvaro Saborio's first goal in English football had given the Robins a fourth straight win on home soil.

Elsewhere, Barnsley against Swansea ended goaless, while Darren Ambrose's 55th-minute strike gave Crystal Palace a 1-0 win at home to Derby.
