Reading winger Jobi McAnuff is hoping the weekend win over Coventry has lifted the pressure on manager Brendan Rodgers.

McAnuff was instrumental in the Royals' 3-1 success at the Ricoh Arena as he had a hand in Grzegorz Rasiak's brace and also scored his first goal for the club.

The 27-year-old was signed by Rodgers from Watford in the summer and is happy to be working under the former Hornets boss at Reading.

Reports had claimed that Rodgers was already battling to save his job following a run of four successive defeats prior to the Coventry win, but McAnuff hopes the manager will stay in charge.

"I enjoyed myself at Watford under Brendan, so I'm happy to link up with him again," said McAnuff.

"The manager has shielded us from the pressure. He has taken the responsibility and allowed us to get on with what we do, but hopefully this result will relieve the pressure.

"We cannot pay any attention to whether he had two games to go. We do not know whether it is just speculation or not, but for us it is a matter of working hard and playing to our best.

"The manager is a calm guy. He doesn't lose his rag that often and is quite chilled out. I have played with bawlers and shouters and it soon loses its effect.

"When a manager is calm and expresses his opinions, it comes over much better, to me at least."
