Ten-man Huddersfield fought back from a goal behind to snatch a point they
barely deserved in this dour clash at Loftus Road.
And it was Peter Jackson's two substitutes that were to combine to give
Huddersfield a vital equaliser on 79 minutes.
Simon Baldry turned cleverly in the box and his shot was blocked by Ludek
Miklosko only into the path of Ian Lawson who stroked the ball into the empty
net.
Rangers seemed to have taken a decisive lead just seven minutes into the
second half when Huddersfield also had a player sent off.
On 51 minutes a delightful Rangers move ended with Gavin Peacock being hacked
down on the edge of the box by Kevin Gray.
The Terriers defender had already been booked in the first half and the
referee had little hesitation in showing him a second yellow card.
From the resulting free kick Ian Baraclough stepped up and curled his first
goal for Rangers past the motionless Nico Vaesen.
The first half had been an instantly forgettable one with hardly a chance for
either side.
Huddersfield, missing Marcus Stewart and Craig Armstrong through suspension
had only the aerial power of Wayne Allison to threaten Rangers.
On 24 minutes he thumped a header just wide from Jamie Vincent's cross and
then Ben Thornley picked him out only for his tame effort to be easily clutched
by Miklosko.
Rangers' best chance of the first half came on 22 minutes. Chris Kiwomya beat
his man and got to the by-line before pulling the ball back to Kevin Gallen who
worked an opening, let fly, but saw defender Steve Jenkins block his shot.
The second half was a little livelier especially after the sending off, but
with Rangers in front there only looked like being one winner.
Paul Murray had a 30-yard effort superbly palmed wide by Vaesen on 59 minutes
while just a minute later Tim Breacker's effort through a crowd of players
screamed just wide.
Murray had another long range effort saved by the Huddersfield keeper with 20
minutes left but then the visitors' goal hit Rangers completely out of the
blue.
They threw everything at Huddersfield in the closing stages and in injury time
they almost snatched the points.
Breakers cross was met by Peacock with a flying volley and when Vaesen could
only parry out, Leon Jeanne was first to the rebound only to hit the side
netting.
