QPR REPORTS 1998-1999

Stockport County 0 Queens Park Rangers 0

Keeper Carlo Nash can expect another free meal from his local Balti house after keeping a fourth consecutive clean sheet at Edgeley Park this afternoon.

Curry king Carlo receives a complimentary Indian meal every time he shuts out the opposition.

And Nash's displays this month will be hitting the profits of the Stockport restaurant who came up with the unusual incentive.

He was easily County's star man in what was a drab goalless draw, making a string of excellent saves in each half.

His best moment came in the 32nd and 77th minutes. He used all of his 6ft 5ins frame to tip away a goal-bound shot from lively Leon Jeanne in the opening 45 minutes.

And just when County looked to be getting on top he was called into action again to thwart Kevin Gallen.

Gallen received the ball via a ricochet off impressive County skipper Mike Flynn, but as he attempted to slip the ball into the net Nash raced off his line to smother the danger.

Opposite number Ludek Miklosko was left busy even though the home team forced 11 corners to Rangers' tally of five.

However, Miklosko reacted smartly to deny leading scorer Brett Angell his 17th goal of the campaign after Tony Ellis crossed onto the big man's head in the 79th minute.

Colin Woodthorpe also forced Miklosko to earn his wages and curled another attempt fractionally over the bar, but generally scoring opportunities were few and far between.

County have gone through February unbeaten after earlier wins over Norwich, Birmingham and Crewe and a fourth success might just have earned Gary Megson a manager of the month award.

Referee Clive Wilkes tried to liven up proceedings by booking four players, two from each side. Gavin Peacock and George Kulcsar were cautioned for the visitors while Rob Matthews and Tony Ellis also collected yellow cards.

Generally though there was little excitement for a windswept crowd of 7,694, though Nash will remember the game more than most as he tucks in to a chicken korma later tonight.
