Tranmere after twice trailing finally secured their fifth home League victory
in a thriller which handed Jerry Francis' QPR their first defeat after a run of
four draws.
The Londoners went ahead after 18 minutes when Danny Maddix headed in from a
Paul Murray corner, but Tranmere equalised on 28 minutes from a Dave Challinor
shot after their first corner.
Iain Dowie and Kevin Gallen both missed gilt-edged chances for QPR but they
regained the lead two minutes after half-time through substitute Keith Rowland
after a good run by Murray.
But Tranmere tried a double substitution after 61 minutes with Liam O'Brien
and Jason Koumas coming on, and six minutes later, Koumas provided the pass for
Lee Jones to make it 2-2.
Tranmere went ahead for the first time in the 70th minute. Graham Allen was
the marksman with a low shot in a crowded goalmouth after a mishit effort by
Jones.
Tranmere had chances to add to their advantage, but Scott Taylor just failed
to reach a Lee Jones cross in front of a gaping goal, and Rangers 'keeper Ludek
Miklosko made a brilliant save from Jones in the 88th minute.
Ian Baraclough was stretchered off just before half-time after a nasty clash
of heads with George Santos and was replaced by Rowland.
Alan Mahon was the midfield star for Tranmere, for whom Santos collected a
yellow card for a foul. Also shown yellow were QPR players Steve Morrow, Maddix,
Gavin Peacock and Dowie.
