Rangers battled to a hard-earned point at Carrow Road after losing young
midfielder Paul Murray with a suspected broken leg after 10 minutes
The England B star went down clutching his right leg in agony on the edge of
the Rangers box after a challenge from midfielder Peter Grant.
Rangers had already lost Keith Rowland with a gashed leg after just three
minutes following Sean Carey's mistimed tackle and both players were quickly
dispatched to hospital in an ambulance.
The Canaries, now without a win in seven matches, also had their share of bad
luck with injuries as danger man Darren Eadie went off after 25 minutes with
what looked like a pulled hamstring.
Shot-shy Rangers never looked capable of taking more than a point while the
home side were little better even though they went close to taking all three
points in the dying stages.
The increasingly frustrated home supporters had to put with 70 minutes of
unremitting tedium before the game suddenly burst into life with clear-cut
openings in the space of five minutes.
First young striker Adrian Coote found himself one-on-one with keeper Lee
Harper as the Rangers defence appealed in vain for offside. But as he dithered
the chance went with the keeper and defender David Bardsley combining to clear
the danger.
Then Rangers keeper Harper raced out to collect a hopeful punt upfield and was
beaten to the ball by the head of another youngster, Chris Llewellyn, but the
ball came back off the post and Carl Ready was able to clear the danger.
