Jay Rodriguez scored the winning goal in the final minute of extra-time to book Burnley's place in the fourth round of the FA Cup with a dramatic 2-1 win over QPR.

The Clarets now face a trip to West Brom following the Baggies' 2-0 win over Peterborough.

A dire first 45 minutes was followed by two goals in the second period.

Samuel di Carmine curled home the opener for the visitors but Steven Thompson's thumping equaliser from close range meant an extra 30 minutes was needed.

And after a minute of added time in injury time local lad Rodriguez raced through and notched the decisive goal.

Only a Steven Caldwell interception prevented a fine passing move from the visitors resulting in the opener.

Midfielder Emmanuel Ledesma threaded a neat ball through but a sliding challenge from the Clarets defender took the ball away from an advancing Di Carmine.

Chris McCann pulled up midway through the first half, adding to Burnley boss Owen Coyle's injury woes, and he was replaced by Alan Mahon in the heart of midfield.

His left-footed drive after breaking late on the left-hand side of the box was perhaps the closest either side came to breaking the deadlock.

The first chance after the break fell to Clarke Carlisle, who rose in the QPR box and powered a header narrowly wide of Radek Cerny's right-hand post.

But QPR were not without chances of their own and Stephen Jordan did well to divert a dangerous Damien Delaney cross out for a corner with his head.

The visitors scored in the 54th minute when Mikele Leigertwood stole the ball from Burnley substitute Mahon and sent Di Carmine clean through on goal.

The Rangers frontman drove towards goal before curling his first goal in three months into the far corner of Jensen's net.

And it could have been two when midfielder Martin Rowlands crashed an effort against the top of the crossbar.

But the home side responded on the hour-mark when a Graham Alexander corner resulted in a goal-mouth scramble after Cerny came for but failed to catch his hanging corner.

Thompson showed quick feet, dummied past the desperate challenge of a Rangers defender and fired into the roof of the net via the underside of the crossbar.

Rowlands hit the crossbar for a second time after a teasing run in the closing stages, while Eagles was denied a stoppage-time winner after he was ruled to have been in an offside position when he turned substitute Alex McDonald's drive into the net.

Heidar Helguson was denied a goal by a very late offside flag in the 103rd minute for Rangers and a dipping volley from Eagles went close in the second period of extra time.

Route one football resulted in the winning goal as Brian Jensen's long kick left Rodriguez with just Cerny to beat and he made no mistake with his finish.
