Carl Cort came off the bench to salvage a Coca-Cola Championship point for Wolves after Kevin Gallen's early strike had looked set to give QPR all three points.

After taking the lead in the 11th minute, QPR upset the rhythm of Glenn Hoddle's side and came close to getting maximum reward.

Wolves had travelled to London looking to move up towards the play-off places after remaining undefeated since going down 2-0 to Wigan on January 4.

They were strengthened in midfield by the return of captain Paul Ince, who missed Saturday's draw with Gillingham through suspension.

Leon Clarke, who grabbed the equaliser in that game, started up front alongside Kenny Miller - with Cort dropping to the bench.

QPR were without striker Tony Thorpe, who has a hamstring injury.

Wolves had the first sight of goal, Miller hitting a strong volley from the edge of the box in the eighth minute to warm the palms of Simon Royce.

But QPR quickly moved the play to the other end, and Wolves goalkeeper Michael Oakes did well to block Paul Furlong's close-range header - before Gallen opened the scoring.

The striker shot low from the left of the penalty area, beating Oakes at his far post.

Wolves were rattled, and Joleon Lescott quickly picked up a yellow card for a foul on Gallen as the home side came forward again.

Georges Santos hit a long-range effort over the bar, but chances for both sides dried up.

Wolves had a brief sight on goal when Ki-Hyeon Seol got up for a header from six yards 10 minutes before the interval, but it was held by Royce.

It was the QPR offside trap which dominated after the break, Miller and Seol getting caught in it several times.

Hoddle grew frustrated and in the 63rd minute he made a double substitution, bringing on Seyi George Olofinjana and Colin Cameron for Seol and Kevin Cooper.

But they struggled to make an impact, and it was QPR who retained the upper hand.

Marc Bircham fired wide of the right post from the edge of the area as they began to turn up the heat.

Four minutes later, Matthew Rose met Martin Rowlands' cross - but his header went over the bar from six yards.

Oakes then made two great saves, first denying Paul Furlong and then Gallen.

Hoddle brought on Cort for the final 15 minutes - and he got his reward five minutes from time.

The ex-Newcastle man had already forced a fumble from Oakes with a drilled header in the 83rd minute - and moments later he made no mistake as he fired the ball in from the edge of the area.

Olofinjana forced a good save from Royce as Wolves went for an unlikely winner, but in the end they had to settle for a point.
