Honours ended even after an entertaining clash between mid-table sides
Tranmere and QPR.
QPR skipper Gavin Peacock gave his side the interval advantage with a
well-struck 26th-minute penalty after Gareth Roberts handled following a
free-kick by Ian Baraclough.
But Tranmere levelled in the 53rd minute. Midfielder Alan Mahon netted into
the top left-hand corner with a spectacular 20-yard shot after he collected a
poor clearance by Richard Langley.
Both sides missed gilt-edged opportunities but there were also several
excellent saves by keepers John Achterberg and Rangers' Ludek Miklosko.
The best by Achterberg came in the 45th minute when he finger-tipped away a
Stuart Wardley header but he also did well to keep out a late effort by Chris
Kiwomya.
Miklosko produced his best effort to deny Andy Parkinson in the 49th minute.
Parkinson shone for the Merseysiders and youngster Richard Hinds impressed in
midfield.
Karl Ready was solid in central defence for the Londoners and Wardley was
always in the thick of the action in his midfield role.
Paul Bruce collected the only caution for a 69th minute foul.
