QPR REPORTS 1999-2000

Swindon 0 QPR 1

Richard Langley's last-minute strike fired play-off chasing QPR to a deserved First Division win at Swindon.

It was always going to take a special goal to beat impressive goalkeeper Frank Talia, who nearly won rock-bottom Swindon a much-needed point.

Talia's second-half heroics eventually proved in vain as young striker Langley netted his first goal of the season with a powerful 15-yard shot through a crowded penalty area.

Luckless Swindon substituted debutant striker Mark McCammon soon after half-time following an x-rated challenge from QPR defender Chris Plummer.

Plummer was deservedly booked shortly before the break but 6ft 5in McCammon was to hobble back onto the field in a vain attempt to prove his fitness.

The 21-year-old Charlton loanee had been disappointing in the first half, failing to convert a golden chance on 14 minutes when he misjudged a header from just six yards out.

The County Ground clash was delayed by 10 minutes due to crowd congestion but Talia's saves were well worth the wait.

Until Langley's late attempt the woodwork had helped Talia keep the QPR avalanche at bay.

Stuart Wardley had crashed a 15-yard drive against the underside of the Swindon crossbar with the Robins defence, including Talia, rooted to the spot. The rebounding ball was headed over by Plummer.

Rangers, who included Arsenal defender Brian McGovern in their line-up, could have scored through Langley after only 10 minutes but his 25-yard volley was well saved by Talia.

It set the tone for much of the match with Rangers producing an inspired second-half performance as Swindon, without a win since October 26, struggled to live with the high-flying west Londoners.

Swindon were not without their chances and could also have won the game as they exerted some pressure in the final stages.

Substitute Charlie Griffin volleyed just over the bar from the apex of the penalty area with Lee Harper well-beaten in the QPR goal.
