Lee Trundle's love affair with the FA Cup continued as the Swansea striker maintained his record of scoring in every round of the competition with the winning goal against First Division Preston.

Trundle, who was turned down by North End nine years ago, volleyed home his 20th goal of the season to complete a dramatic turnaround at the Vetch Field.

Preston had taken a 58th-minute lead through Dickson Etuhu's thumping header, but two goals in two minutes from Andy Robinson and Trundle secured Swansea's place in the fifth round for the first time since 1980.

The Swans, currently lying ninth in the Third Division, almost got off to the perfect start after just 17 seconds.

No Preston player had touched the ball when Leon Britton played in Trundle, but the striker fired straight at Jonathan Gould.

In a lively start, Britton volleyed inches wide, before Preston winger Eddie Lewis was sent clear, only to be denied by Swansea goalkeeper Roger Freestone.

Trundle was causing problems for the Preston defence as he skipped past Claude Davis and cut the ball back for Britton, but the youngster's shot was pushed away by Gould.

The visitors were creating chances themselves, though, with David Healy forcing a stunning save from Freestone with a stinging 20-yard drive.

Preston started the second half strongly, with Healy curling a free-kick over the crossbar and top scorer Ricardo Fuller firing over when well-placed.

However, their early pressure paid off shortly afterwards.

An inswinging corner to the near post from Healy was headed into the far corner by midfielder Etuhu - his second goal in two games.

Swansea fought back and felt they should have been awarded a penalty when Trundle tangled with Davis in the area, only for the referee to wave play on.

But Brian Flynn's side did snatch an equaliser - their first goal in more than six hours of football - with 10 minutes remaining.

Etuhu brought down Trundle 25 yards from goal, and from the resulting free-kick, Robinson, back in the side after suspension, smashed home a stunning free-kick.

The home side were buoyed by the goal and went on to grab a second from their next attack. Trundle controlled a James Thomas cross on his chest before lashing a volley past a helpless Gould.

It was backs to the wall in the closing stages as Preston piled forward, but the Swans held on for a famous victory.
