Therry Racon and Nicky Bailey were on target as rock-bottom Charlton grabbed a rare Coca-Cola Championship win over Plymouth at The Valley.
Phil Parkinson's side have been training at the David Beckham Academy due to the recent bad weather and something must have rubbed off on Racon who came up with a goal the England superstar would have been proud of - a stunning curler from the edge of the area.
Bailey missed a penalty after the break, with overworked Plymouth goalkeeper Romain Larrieu pulling off a fine save, but the midfielder made amends when he tucked away the second in the 68th minute to secure only Charlton's second win in 22 attempts.
For Argyle, a deflected Paul Gallagher free-kick hit the crossbar just after Racon struck, but they otherwise posed little threat and, having not won since Boxing Day will soon be in danger of joining Charlton in the drop zone.
The hosts should have taken the lead in the seventh minute when Matthew Spring swung a free-kick on to the head of Tresor Kandol but the on-loan Leeds frontman planted the ball straight at Larrieu.
Krisztian Timar then denied Kandol with a brave block inside the area, before Chris Dickson shot straight at Larrieu as the Addicks pressed for the opener.
Dickson forced a sharp diving save from Larrieu before the breakthrough came just after the half-hour mark.
The Plymouth defence could only clear Tom Soares' cross as far as the edge of the area from where Racon shifted the ball on to his left foot and unleashed a superb curler past Larrieu and into the top corner.
The visitors came agonisingly close to equalising before the break when Gallagher's 25-yard free-kick was deflected on to the crossbar with Rob Elliot beaten.
The second half began in dramatic fashion when Craig Cathcart was adjudged to have handled in the Argyle area and referee Trevor Kettle pointed to the spot.
Bailey stepped up and blasted his penalty down the middle but Larrieu, who had dived to his right, stuck out his left arm and somehow palmed the ball to safety.
Bailey had the chance to atone for the miss moments later but blasted a volley high over the bar from 10 yards.
Larrieu pulled off two more fine saves to deny Dickson and Kandol in quick succession, before the latter shanked another good chance over the top.
But Bailey finally put Charlton out of reach when he raced on to Racon's through-ball, rounded Larrieu and tucked the ball into the empty net.
Kandol caused mild panic in the home ranks late on with a dreadful back-pass but Argyle substitute Rory Fallon could not take advantage.
