Plymouth gatecrashed Hull's survival party with a 2-1 victory at the KC Stadium.

With safety already confirmed due to Leeds' 10-point deduction for entering administration, the home side failed to give their supporters a rousing send-off against Ian Holloway's team.

Peter Halmosi's first-half header gave Plymouth the lead before Sylvain Ebanks-Blake made amends for an earlier penalty miss with a good volley after 59 minutes.

Substitute Stuart Elliott made it 2-1 shortly afterwards with a simple tap in, but Hull lacked the inventiveness to score a second as Plymouth finished their campaign with a fifth consecutive victory.

Phil Brown's men had plenty of possession in the first half but nothing to show for their efforts other than Ian Ashbee's header which sailed over the crossbar.

Plymouth hardly set pulses racing either but were a live danger on the counter-attack - with one slick move leading to Damien Delaney's clumsy foul on David Norris inside the penalty box.

Ebanks-Blake drilled the resulting spot-kick low down the centre of goal but Boaz Myhill reacted smartly and steered the ball to safety with his legs.

Myhill and his team-mates were not so fortunate as first-half injury-time approached when Norris sent over a perfect cross to the back post.

Halmosi evaded his marker and looped the ball across goal and into the back of the net from close range.

Plymouth strengthened their lead 14 minutes after the restart when Ebanks-Blake atoned for his previous error with a fierce volley from Halmosi's powerful run and cross.

Hull were not finished, however, and reduced the deficit two minutes later after Romain Larrieu pulled off an excellent save from Nicky Forster's close-range effort.

Larrieu was unlucky to see the loose ball fall to Elliott, who hammered the ball home from two yards.

With Hull fans anticipating an unlikely comeback, Halmosi nearly made it 3-1 when he hit the right-hand post from just outside the six-yard box.

Although Plymouth became heavy-legged, the visitors comfortably repelled a Hull team whose survival in the Championship far outweighed the scoreline to this end-of-season dead-rubber.
