Plymouth 1 Luton 2 Click here for full match stats

Luton are on course for a top-10 finish after completing a late comeback to secure a 2-1 victory at Plymouth.

The visitors had the better of a game that for 70 minutes had all the hallmarks of an end-of-season encounter with both sides certain to be playing Championship football next season.

But Mike Newell's men had looked set for defeat when Akos Buzsaky put Plymouth ahead with 20 minutes remaining.

However goals from substitutes Rowan Vine and Calvin Andrew completed the turnaround and secured the points for Luton.

The Hatters' recent results have taken a bit of the shine off an otherwise impressive season for last year's League One champions.

Their poor form had no doubt been in part due to the injury crisis Newell's charges currently find themselves in and 15-goal striker Steve Howard has even had to fill in in defence to compensate.

Plymouth boss Tony Pulis had hinted he would use the remaining games to blood a few youngsters ready for next season.

But 22-year-old goalkeeper Luke McCormick was the only change to the starting line-up, making his first league start of the season.

On the bench, however, Luke Summerfield and youth-team graduate Reuben Reid were both drafted in for league experience.

Luton, meanwhile, called in Keith Keane and David Bell, who was making only his second start for the club.

With nothing left to play for but pride, both sides started slowly and Howard created the first shot on target when he chested down a 10th-minute corner to loop a shot on goal, but McCormick comfortably saved.

David Norris shot over the bar in the 19th minute for the home side and the midfielder fired wide from a tight angle seven minutes later.

Howard nearly broke the deadlock nine minutes before half-time but McCormick parried well to deny the striker.

The visitors were carving out the better chances and Enoch Showunmi headed wide soon after, while Howard again forced another good save from McCormick shortly before the break.

Luton goalkeeper Marlon Beresford was made to work for the first time when he had to be alert for Paul Wotton's 51st-minute free-kick.

Just after the hour mark Vincent Pericard's bullet header nearly put the home side ahead but Beresford saved well on the line to deny the striker.

But the deadlock was finally broken when Pericard fed substitute Buzsaky in the 70th minute and the Hungarian slammed the ball into the back of the net.

However the lead lasted just nine minutes as Vine hauled the visitors level.

Howard flicked the ball into the area and Vine acrobatically sent an overhead shot beyond McCormick.

And the game swung in Luton's favour when they snatched the lead and the points with two minutes remaining.

Vine was the time provider, with his pass playing in Andrew who was left with the simplest of finishes.
