Peterborough have signed Histon midfielder Josh Simpson on loan until the end of the year - and he could face Newcastle this weekend.

The 22-year-old had been on trial at London Road over the last few weeks and scored the third goal in a 3-0 reserves win over Luton on Wednesday.

He becomes manager Darren Ferguson's third signing in the last fortnight and he could make his debut against the Magpies this weekend.

Ferguson told the club's official website: "Josh is a player that has been on the radar for a little while and he impressed greatly when he came in on trial.

"I am pleased to have him on board. He can play just behind the strikers or on the right and gives us good options.

"We are still looking to get a striker in but it is difficult. There is no point in our situation bringing in players to improve the squad - they need to make our starting XI better."
