Kevin Campbell scored twice as Nottingham Forest added three more points to
their first division promotion push at the expense of fellow high-fliers
Swindon.
Campbell took his goal tally for the season to 12 with two well-taken strikes
in the opening 22 minutes.
His brace was followed by an Andy Johnson goal before the interval which
effectively sealed victory for Dave Bassett's men, who stay level on points with
Middlesbrough at the top of the table.
Swindon struggled to come to terms with classy Forest - especially in the
first half - and left the City Ground counting themselves fortunate to have only
conceded three.
Campbell went close to completing his hat-trick in the second period but saw
one effort cleared off the line by Mark Robinson while goalkeeper Fraser Digby
also denied the in-form marksman with a good save late on.
Forest, who in the second half struggled to live up to the standards they had
set for themselves before the break, were guilty of squandering a number of good
chances with England winger Steve Stone and full-back Alan Rogers both at
fault.
But in the first half there was no stopping the hosts and they took the lead
with just 10 minutes on the clock, Ian Woan sending Campbell free with a
defence-splitting pass and the striker drawing Digby before firing home.
Twelve minutes later the former Arsenal hit man made it two. This time,
though, Scot Gemmill supplied the killer pass which Campbell ran on to, rounded
Digby and fired into an empty net.
In between those two goals Swindon went close themselves with a Ty Gooden
free-kick from the edge of the area which flew inches wide of the target.
But Forest sealed matters 16 minutes from time when Johnson headed home from
close range after Dutchman Pierre van Hooijdonk headed back across goal.
