Nottingham Forest made it two wins out of two in Nationwide Division One after
dominating a scrappy affair at the National Hockey Stadium.
Gareth Taylor picked up from where he left off on Saturday to give Forest the
perfect start.
The Forest striker earned a recall to the starting line-up after his last-gasp
winner against Bradford and claimed his fifth goal of the season just four
minutes in.
Taylor was first to pounce after Andy Reid's shot was saved by home goalkeeper
Steve Banks, his header rolling across goal and into the far corner.
Taylor continued to cause the Dons defence problems, with a ninth-minute
header drifting narrowly over the bar
Wimbledon's central defence duo, Peter Hawkins and Mark Williams, were also
troubled by the pace of Marlon King whose right-footed shot was parried by Banks
on 25 minutes.
The home side were struggling to get a foothold into the game but were led
forward by new player-coach Warren Barton.
The former Crazy Gang member, making his Milton Keynes debut, had a number of
corners repelled by the Forest backline before Williams almost claimed the
equaliser.
Barton's 32nd-minute corner was flicked on by Dean Lewington but Williams
headed against a Forest post.
However, the visitors hit back immediately through King, whose shot from the
edge of the penalty area was saved superbly by Banks.
Unfortunately for the Dons though, they could not repeat the form of their
shot-stopper Banks.
Two efforts by midfielder Ben Harding were typical of their display as neither
troubled Barry Roche, who kept his place in the Forest goal.
Midfielder Wade Small then provided some encouragement for the suffering Dons
fans just before the hour but his brilliant long-range volley went just wide of
Barry Roche's goal.
Nevertheless, Small and his midfield companions were outclassed by Forest's
midfield duo, Andy Reid and Nicky Barmby.
The pair showed just why they have played on the international stage as they
helped the visitors control proceedings.
Barmby had a header tipped over before his 65th-minute volley was again
blocked by Banks.
Midway through the half Wimbledon boss Stuart Murdoch brought on some fresh
legs in a bid to break Forest's midfield dominance.
Jamal Campbell-Ryce and Albert Jarrett replaced Small and Harding but neither
made any impact in the closing stages.
A Wimbledon fightback was never on the cards, with their only attempt at goal
a Malvin Kamara shot from outside the box which was easily held by Roche.
Murdoch's men provided him with little hope as they succumbed to their seventh
consecutive league defeat.
