NOTTINGHAM FOREST REPORTS 1999-2000
Picture Platt - relieved at valuable win (Allsport)

Crewe 0 Nottingham Forest 3

Forest boss David Platt put one over on his old mentor Dario Gradi with a 3-0 victory in this relegation six pointer at Crewe.

Alan Rogers scored two and David Prutton one as Crewe, who have lost four games on the trot, crashed into the relegation zone.

Prutton opened the scoring after 25 minutes with the first goal of his career. Chris Bart-Williams sent Rogers charging down the flank and the midfielder played an inch-perfect cut back for Prutton to finish.

Rogers made it two in the 53rd minute. Marlon Harewood sent Stern John away and the Trinidad and Tobago international teed up Rogers who rifled home from the edge of the box.

Rogers struck with his second in the 79th minute when from a Jack Lester cross Harewood dummied and Rogers arrived at the far post to volley home.

Riccardo Scimeca came close in the opening minute after ghosting past Steve Macauly but his shot flew wide.

Kenny Lunt cleared from off the line moments later after Harewood's dangerous cross was flicked past Jason Kearton by John.

Rogers hit a fierce drive from just inside the area which beat the Crewe keeper Kearton but Mark Rivers was on the line to clear.

Next Rogers' free-kick was palmed away by Kearton.

Forest piled on the pressure and a snap shot from Andy Johnson fell just wide.

Forest keeper Dave Beasant nearly got his side into trouble when he charged out of his area to make a clearance. The veteran missed the ball completely but Crewe's Colin Little couldn't make the finish.

Bart-Williams hit a furious shot which had Kearton beaten but Neil Sorvel was able to clear.

In a rare Crewe attack Little played in Colin Cramb who tried to dribble the ball into the Forest goal but Beasant was able to smother.

In the final minute Cramb was on his own in the middle of the penalty area and screaming for the ball but Rivers elected to take it on on his own and blasted wide.
