Midfielder Chris Holland struck his first league goal of his career to give
Huddersfield only their third home victory of the Millennium.
Town had dropped valuable points at the McAlpine Stadium since the turn of the
year slipping from pole position.
But Holland's strike, a crisp drive from 20 yards with Clyde Wijnhard the
provider, kept Steve Bruce's team in sight of the Premiership.
It was Forest who took the lead in the first half after some early
Huddersfield pressure.
Andy Johnson curled the ball from the right into Alan Rogers path, charging
through the middle, and when keeper Nico Vaesen blocked with his legs Marlon
Harewood picked up the loose ball to sidefoot home.
Town, after losing the services of leading scorer Martin Smith when he limped
off, soon cancelled out Forest's 21st minute opener.
Wijnhard spread the ball from the centre circle into George Donis' path down
the right and the Greek winger charged into the area only to be dispossessed.
But with Forest struggling to clear Chris Beech ran the loose ball from 15
yards past the outstretched hand of Dave Beasant, a day the keeper's 41st
birthday.
Huddersfield began to dominate and Beech went close to adding his second with
a low drive a minute after his goal that shaved Beasant's right-hand post.
Wijnhard and Jamie Vincent had their chances before Forest eventually got back
into the game.
Rogers, proving to be a real menace for the Huddersfield rear guard, sent a
swerving drive which Vaesen did well to get a hand to before gathering at the
second attempt on 48 minutes.
Substitute Michel Ngonge beat Jim Brennan to the ball to fire a half volley
wide moments later.
But Forest kept pressing for a second and Freedman struck the post when
Rogers' low cross evaded everyone from the opposite flank.
Holland gave the Terriers the lead on 56 minutes when he unleashed a fierce
shot into Beasant's right-hand corner.
Chris Lucketti's pass was flicked into Wijnhard's path by Ngonge and the
Dutchman played it - aptly enough - to Holland to record his first league goal.
Harewood caused moments of panic in the dying minutes when he twice weaved his
way into the area but with no one in support Forest were unable to equalise.
