Newcastle may have to do without key defenders Steven Taylor and Fabricio Coloccini once again for Tuesday night's clash at Scunthorpe.
Taylor (hamstring) and Coloccini (groin) both missed Saturday's 1-0 Championship defeat at Nottingham Forest and are not expected to recover in time for the trip to Glanford Park.
However, while Taylor will also struggle to make Saturday's home clash with Doncaster, the Argentina international is expected to be fit after almost a month on the sidelines.
Elsewhere, Chris Hughton has only long-term injury victims Shola Ameobi and Joey Barton missing, both with long-term foot problems as the Magpies attempt to bounce back from a run of three games which has seen them take just two points and slip from the top if the table as a result.
Scunthorpe have no fresh injury worries ahead of the clash at Glanford Park.
There had been fears Grant McCann would be ruled out after taking a knock in the 3-1 win over Sheffield United at the weekend but he is fit for the visit of the Magpies.
Despite manager Nigel Adkins having a full compliment of players he will still be without two first-team players.
Striker Ben May is on crutches and will be out until December with an ankle injury while Kenny Milne is still on the long road to recovery from a long-term knee problem.
The Iron head into the match with Michael O'Connor available, despite him picking up his fifth booking of the season at the weekend.
Due to the seven day rule he will instead miss next weekend's trip to Peterborough.
