Millwall overcame a heavy pitch and a spirited non-league team to claim a place in the fifth round of the FA Cup on Wednesday night.

They will now host First Division rivals Burnley - whose manager Stan Ternent attended this twice-delayed tie.

The Bucks Head ground was more like Beachy Head, with a layer of sand on the playing surface, but Millwall made light of the conditions and secured their passage thanks to goals from Paul Ifill and player-manager Dennis Wise.

The Lions always looked in control from the 10th minute when Tim Cahill advanced into the penalty area but goalkeeper Chris Mackenzie was alert to the danger and diverted his effort to safety.

On-loan striker Danny Dichio was also beginning to look threatening for Millwall. He rattled in a shot that was deflected wide by his team-mate David Livermore. The big striker then headed wide from Wise's cross.

This was a good spell by Millwall and Neil Harris raced forward only to clear the bar from distance.

Millwall made the breakthrough after 38 minutes through Ifill. He was released by Cahill and his powerful effort took a slight deflection off Dichio.

Cahill and Dichio then squandered good chances after getting themselves into good positions before half-time.

The visitors continued to dominate in the second half and Cahill's effort went over the top from inside the area after 49 minutes while Dichio fired wide three minutes later.

Telford were finding it difficult to get going, leaving the packed home crowd frustrated.

Ifill tried his luck from 30 yards with Mackenzie out of his goal but his effort went wide.

Dichio squandered a good chance of getting the second, firing wide from substitute Kevin Braniff's cross.

Wise sewed things up seven minutes from time with a superb shot into the corner.

For battling Telford it will be Weston-super-Mare on Saturday in the FA Trophy and not Burnley in the last 16 of the FA Cup.
