Matty Fryatt grabbed his third goal of the season to give Leicester victory in their Coca-Cola Championship clash with Barnsley.

The Foxes were the brighter of the two sides and got the goal their performance deserved eight minutes after half-time when Fryatt produced a tidy finish past Barnsley goalkeeper Luke Steele.

The win continued Leicester's fine start to life back in the Championship, while Barnsley are still looking for their first league win of the season.

Leicester started well and Paul Gallagher, making his Foxes debut after joining from Blackburn, crossed for Robbie Neilson who saw his shot well saved by Steele.

Barnsley gradually began to get into the game and Jamal Campbell-Ryce's shot was blocked by Wayne Brown with Anderson De Silva firing the rebound over the bar from 25 yards.

Minutes later former Leicester man Iain Hume swung in a corner which found Stephen Foster but he headed over.

Barnsley continued to push forward in search of the opener but Leicester were restricting them to long shots and both De Silva and Mounir El Haimour failed to trouble Foxes goalkeeper Chris Weale with efforts from distance.

However, Leicester came closest to opening the scoring midway through the half when Lloyd Dyer evaded two challenges before firing the ball just wide.

Barnsley were still threatening and Martin Devaney let fly with a powerful shot from distance that was superbly kept out by Weale.

At the other end, Richie Wellens played in Fryatt but Steele was out quickly to make the save.

Fryatt spurned another great chance at the end of the half when he got on the end of Neilson's cross but failed to steer the shot past Steele.

Leicester came flying out the traps for the second half and Fryatt made amends eight minutes after the break when he received the ball from Wellens and finished well past Steele.

The goal rocked Barnsley and Leicester almost doubled their lead moments later when Matt Oakley's corner found Wellens but he shot over from close range.

The Tykes had Steele to thank for keeping them in the game with 68 minutes gone when he made a superb save to deny Gallagher a goal on his debut.

Minutes later Steele had to be alert once again to keep out Dany N'Guessan's shot from 20 yards.

Leicester were dominating but Barnsley almost grabbed an unlikely equaliser when Rob Kozluk's shot flew just wide of the upright.

However the Tykes were unable to find a way back into the match as their poor run of form continued.
