Peter Halmosi's second goal in as many games helped Plymouth to all three points against a dismal Leicester side at Home Park.
The Hungarian gave the hosts a 15th-minute lead with a well-taken strike from inside the penalty area after good work from Barry Hayles, to double his tally for the season after his opener against Leeds on Saturday.
Sylvan Ebanks-Blake doubled the home side's advantage a mere 17 seconds after the break following a terrible defensive mix-up from the visitors, before Hayles' far-post header completed the rout midway through the second half.
Pilgrims boss Ian Holloway made two changes from the side beaten late on at Elland Road, Mat Doumbe returned from suspension at the heart of defence, while Akos Buzsaky was preferred to Bojan Djordjic in midfield.
Foxes manager Rob Kelly made four changes from the starting XI who held leaders Derby at the weekend, James Wesolowski, Nils-Eric Johansson, Shaun Newton and striker Matty Fryatt all coming in.
But it was the hosts who opened the scoring with the first meaningful chance of the game.
Hayles picked the ball up on the left-hand side of the area, before laying off an inch-perfect pass for the on-loan Halmosi to guide a sublime effort past goalkeeper Paul Henderson and into the top right-hand corner.
The goal appeared to spur the home side into action and they were unlucky not to add to the opener shortly after.
Firstly, visiting defender Jason Jarrett was forced to clear a Halmosi corner off the Foxes goal-line, before Buzsaky went close with a drilled effort following some dubious Leicester defending.
The visitors gradually started to get a foothold on the game as the first half dragged on but without seriously threatening the scoreline.
And they were made to pay for their inefficiency in front of goal as the home side doubled their advantage immediately from the restart.
Ebanks-Blake chased an innocuous looking through ball down the right before taking advantage of some poor defending from the visitors to cut inside the despairing Henderson to fire the ball into the roof of the net from 12 yards out.
The Foxes defence was at sixes and sevens as Ebanks-Blake came close to doubling his personal tally for the afternoon with a fierce strike from distance 10 minutes later.
But it was not long before Plymouth were three goals to the good. Ebanks-Blake again caused havoc down the right wing before delivering a great cross to provide Hayles with the easy task of heading home his 12th goal of the season from close range.
Strangely, the Foxes started playing their best football of the afternoon with the game dead and buried.
And substitute Geoff Horsfield missed the best of a host of chances for the away side to net a consolation - failing to find the target after he was presented with a near open goal with 15 minutes remaining.
