Plymouth and Leicester played out a goalless encounter at Home Park that had all the markings of an end-of-season mid-table tussle in the Coca Cola Championship.
Both sides' league status had been secured earlier and Leicester had already started planning for next season by axing six first-team players, including the likes of former England goalkeeper Ian Walker and defender Nikos Dabizas.
With nothing but pride to play for it was a surprise that both teams fought out an entertaining start.
Plymouth had a good chance early on when Paul Wotton's free-kick sailed just over the bar while Leicester were enjoying some enterprising forays into the Plymouth half.
David Connolly fired the Foxes' first effort on goal over the bar in the fifth minute while Akos Buzsaky should have done better for the Pilgrims soon after
with his long-range shot.
Plymouth were creating the better chances as the half wore on and in the 14th minute David Norris crossed for Graham Coughlin who headed towards goal but
Leicester keeper Lars Hirschfeld saved comfortably.
And the Pilgrims were unlucky not to take the lead in the 23rd minute when Scott Taylor pinched the ball off Foxes defender Darren Kenton and fired a shot
towards goal that beat Hirschfeld but struck the woodwork and bounced towards
safety.
Nick Chadwick should have done better 10 minutes later but he was unable to
connect properly with a volley which failed to trouble Hirschfeld.
And Taylor produced a fantastic save from Hirschfeld just before half-time
before Norris' effort was also saved by the Canadian goalkeeper to ensure the
game remained goalless at half-time.
In the 50th minute Buzsaky's attempted lob from 25 yards went over the bar as
Plymouth continued to attack in the second-half.
Two minutes later Connolly had Leicester's first effort of the half but his
shot went wide of the Pilgrims goal.
Leicester created another half-chance through Joey Gudjonsson but his 25-yard
shot failed to cause any problems for Luke McCormick.
Just after the hour Buzsaky curled a right footed shot towards goal that
Hirschfeld had covered before Steve Milne provided a cross for Chadwick to fire
a shot towards goal that went just wide.
As play entered the final 10 minutes the game looked destined for a draw as
neither side were able to create any clear cut chances.
In the 80th minute Milne drilled a shot from the edge of the area that was
saved by Hirschfeld before Luke Summerfield's shot in the last minute was driven
wide.
And in stoppage time Norris' header was caught by Hirschfeld but Plymouth were
unable to find a breakthrough and both side's had to settle for finishing the
season with a share of the spoils.
