Ipswich 2 Derby 0 Click here for full match stats

Ipswich ended an eight-game winless streak as two second-half goals gave Town their first home win for more than two months against Derby.

Nicky Forster opened the scoring just 53 seconds after the restart with the Tractor Boys' first meaningful shot on target.

Forster beat Lee Camp from outside the area with a driven shot that nestled in the top corner left-hand corner following Owen Garvan's perfectly-weighted pass.

Darren Currie sealed the points in the 65th minute when he found the bottom corner with a right-footed volley from 18 yards.

Both teams had nothing but pride left to play for this season but even that could not provide the incentive for a noteworthy shot on target in the first half as both sides lacked the ingenuity to create any clear-cut chances.

Derby - who have not won away since coming from behind to beat Stoke 2-1 back in November - provided the first shot at goal after six minutes, but Morten Bisgaard's curling effort failed to worry Shane Supple in the Ipswich goal.

Currie responded for Joe Royle's side 10 minutes later but his low shot from outside the penalty area went wide.

Defender Matthew Richards sent a fiercely-struck shot wide of goal soon after but it was Derby who hit the target for the first time, albeit with a tame effort, just before the half-hour mark.

And it was Bisgaard again with a right-footed drive from the edge of the box but the shot was straight at Supple, who caught the ball comfortably.

The Rams suffered something of a striker crisis in the build-up to the game with Paul Peschisolido, Mounir El Hamdaoui and Kevin Lisbie all unavailable through injury, and it showed in the final third of the pitch.

Seth Johnson - back in Terry Westley's starting line-up after being rested for the 1-1 Easter Monday draw with Hull - slipped the ball to leading goalscorer Inigo Idiakez, but the usually proficient Spaniard fired uncharacteristically over the crossbar in the 38th minute.

Tommy Smith became the latest man to miss the target just before the break when he dragged his shot wide, before Ipswich mustered their first shot on target when Forster sent his effort straight at goalkeeper Lee Camp.

However, Forster was not as wasteful when he notched his third goal in as many games immediately after the restart.

And the former Reading man could have doubled his and Town's tally soon after but followed Danny Haynes in heading over the crossbar from 10 yards.

But Currie then added the second with his fifth goal of the season.
