Sambegou Bangoura netted his first goal for Stoke since returning from the African Nations Cup while Luke Chadwick and Darel Russell added late strikes as Stoke saw off Ipswich in style.
Ipswich substitute Danny Haynes had netted with a clinical second-half finish to cancel out an own goal by Fabian Wilnis, but Stoke refused to buckle and deservedly claimed the points.
Town boss Joe Royle, who earlier in the week had called on his side to finish the season in style, handed a debut to Chris Casement while Dean Bowditch was also included in the starting line-up.
His Stoke counterpart Johan Boskamp included Andy Wilkinson and Peter Kopteff, making just his second league start of the season, after his plans were disrupted when Mamady Sidibe and Lewis Buxton were ruled out through injury.
With his options on the bench reduced Boskamp also included two goalkeepers among his substitutes in Ed de Goey and Robert Duggan.
The visitors were handed an opportunity inside the opening two minutes after a foul by Richard Naylor on Russell 25 yards from goal, but Paul Gallagher curled the resulting free-kick wide of Shane Supple's goal.
Ipswich responded after nine minutes with a volley from Jimmy Juan but Clint Hill did well to block his effort.
The action continued to switch from end to end in a bright opening spell and Kopteff sent a 12-yard shot wide three minutes later and then saw another effort blocked by Wilnis shortly afterwards.
Michael Duberry did well to block a shot from Matthew Richards six minutes before the interval as the home side stepped up the pressure, but Stoke threatened again when Russell fired a 25-yard shot just wide.
The home side were forced to make a change at half-time, bringing on Luis Castro Sito for the injured Casement, but they then went close to taking the lead just two minutes after the re-start.
A Richards cross found Bowditch in the centre of the penalty area but his header from 12 yards flew wide of the target.
But it was the visitors who took the lead in the 50th minute when the unfortunate Wilnis sliced the ball into his own net from six yards.
Just minutes later Town's Owen Garvan was booked following a foul on Russell, but he redeemed himself swiftly by twice clearing corners from Russell and Kopteff.
The home side then opted for a double substitution, bringing on Haynes and Jim Magilton for Bowditch and Garvan respectively.
But it was Stoke who had the next effort on goal with Russell firing wide from distance just before the hour mark.
And the visitors saw another opportunity to extend their advantage after 65 minutes when Gallagher screwed his shot from six yards wide of the target from Carl Hoefkens' cross.
Ipswich levelled just two minutes later with Haynes driving the ball in from 12 yards.
But Stoke wrapped up the points with a final flourish as Bangoura steered his shot home eight minutes from time, Chadwick fired home in the 90th minute and Russell added a fourth in injury time.
