Doncaster chairman John Ryan has dismissed claims that the club have not invested money in strengthening the squad.

Ryan, who is approaching his 12th year as chairman of Rovers, believes the South Yorkshire club have "achieved miracles" during his tenure.

"We do invest a lot in the team but I think fans sometimes look at transfer fees - they don't realise our wage bill now is £6million," he told the club's official website.

"To put that into context, when we won the Division Three title, our wage bill was £840,000."

He added: "We have thrown a lot of money at it relatively but we don't get the same money through the gate - if we average 10,000 but another club averages 20,000 you don't have to be an accountant to realise what the difference is.

"We try and run things in the correct way."
