Substitute Gorka Pintado rescued an unlikely point for Swansea as Derby were made to rue their missed chances in the Coca-Cola Championship clash at Pride Park.

It looked like the Rams would continue their climb away from the relegation zone with a third straight home victory after Chris Porter marked his full home debut with his first goals for the club to give Nigel Clough's side a 2-0 lead.

But the Swans kept themselves firmly in the play-off frame with goals from Angel Rangel and fellow Spaniard Pintado.

Porter, a January signing from Motherwell, opened his account for Derby with a simple tap-in after 14 minutes.

Porter made his first start for the Rams in Friday's defeat at Doncaster in the absence of Kris Commons and, with the Scotland international still sidelined with a calf problem, kept his place in the side.

He rewarded his manager's faith in him by turning home the rebound from inside the six-yard box after Dorus De Vries failed to hold Robbie Savage's free-kick from the edge of the area.

Swansea had chances either side of Porter's opening goal.

Stephen Bywater got down smartly to hold a 20-yard shot from Gomez that zipped off the greasy surface.

The midfielder, on loan from Espanyol, then curled a free-kick narrowly wide from a similar position.

Derby felt they should have been awarded a penalty when Rob Hulse appeared to be tripped by De Vries after 20 minutes but referee Phil Crossley waved away the appeals.

The Kent official then frustrated the Rams, and Hulse, again a minute later when he ruled out a predatory goal from the striker for offside.

Derby came close again eight minutes before the break through Savage with a carbon copy of Gomez's earlier free-kick.

The Rams did double their lead early in the second half when a long punt forward from captain Paul Connolly was inadvertently flicked into Porter's path by Swans defender Ashley Williams.

The former Motherwell man made no mistake, advancing goalwards before curling the ball over the advancing De Vries and into the far corner.

Hulse should have put the game beyond Swansea in the 53rd minute but he powered his header wide when Steve Davies' cross found him unmarked 10 yards out.

Swansea halved their deficit when Gomez's free-kick in the right corner was turned home by Rangel from eight yards out.

Hulse struck a post with a shot from the edge of the area before Davies hit the opposite post with an angled shot.

Then, top scorer Jason Scotland got to the byline and cut the ball back for Pintado who powered a shot in off the under side of the crossbar from near the penalty spot.

De Vries produced a fine save to tip Paul Green's shot from the edge of the area over the crossbar in the final minute.
