Crewe manager Dario Gradi has made his second defensive signing of the summer with the addition of Neil Cox on a two-year deal.
The 34-year-old defender, who had spells with Aston Villa, Middlesbrough, Bolton and Watford, was released by Cardiff at the end of last season.
Gradi has been keen to add experience at the back, with Chris McCready and Stephen Foster both considering other options as well as contract offers from the Alex.
