Never-say-die Coventry twice came from behind to earn a thrilling draw with Wolves at Highfield Road.
The visitors had taken a first-half lead thanks to Leon Clarke's header but
found themselves pegged back following Gary McSheffrey's penalty conversion.
But with little more than 10 minutes remaining Lee Naylor propelled the Black
County outfit into a 2-1 lead, only for Sky Blues substitute Stern John to
dribble into the box and squeeze home a 90th-minute leveller.
The match had got off to a lively start as Wolves midfielder Colin Cameron
chanced his arm early on before Lloyd Dyer set up Dele Adebola close in, but the
Sky Blues striker could only slot wide of the visitors' woodwork.
Then the hosts' Shaun Goater and then Michael Doyle both had shots blocked and
goalkeeper Michael Oakes denied Adebola in the 10th minute before Seyi-George
Olofinjana tested City shot-stopper Luke Steele.
But Steele had no chance when a Lee Naylor free-kick from the left was floated
to the back post where Clarke nodded home a free header on the quarter-hour.
Then, in the 18th minute, the Sky Blues hit back as McSheffrey dribbled into
the box from the right wing and past Naylor who brought down his man near the
byline.
And it was hometown boy McSheffrey himself who stepped up to thump home the
spot-kick.
Claus Jorgensen went close with a header in the 25th minute but goalscoring
opportunities dried up for the remainder of the opening period despite the Sky
Blues threatening on several more occasions.
The next goalscoring opportunity arrived with the second half six minutes old
as Naylor cut in off Wanderers' left but the full-back failed to make decent
contact with a high-bouncing ball and could only slice his shot into the
Coventry side-netting.
But after being let off on that occasion, Steele would soon be called into
emergency action as a Clarke effort was deflected into the path of Kenny Miller
whose shot was miscued across the face of goal from left to right only to arrive
at the feet of Ki-Hyeon Seol.
And although the South Korean's close-range rising drive was on target, Steele
managed to spectacularly tip the ball over the crossbar.
From the resultant Paul Ince corner Seol was presented with another chance but
after shifting the ball on to his left foot he could only blaze wide from 20
yards.
Coventry responded through the effervescent McSheffrey but his second appeal
for a penalty - this time in the 55th minute after tangling with Joleon Lescott
- was waved away by referee Grant Hegley.
Next McSheffrey would hit the bar with a header after a right-wing cross from
Richard Duffy but Coventry hearts were broken as Naylor struck in the 79th
minute with an effort deflected off Steve Staunton.
But there was more to come as John cut in from the left channel and lifted a
right-footed effort past Oakes and into the far corner.
