Stockport player-boss Carlton Palmer inspired his side to their first point
since mid-November against his old club Coventry.
Palmer shrugged off a bloodied nose and an arm injury that needed heavy
bandaging to remain a force at the heart of County's defence.
At the final whistle the delighted Stockport players rushed over to celebrate
their draw with the handful of their travelling fans.
Palmer, who was a Coventry player at the start of this season, had a satisfied
look as he shook hands with his number two Kevin Richardson who was also a
former Coventry player.
They had reason to celebrate because their side had lost its last 11 games and
is anchored firmly at the foot of the table.
Coventry on the other hand desire to return to the Premier League at the first
attempt but in this match they looked nervous and jittery and their attack
stuttered fitfully in the face of County's rearguard action.
David Thompson almost fired Coventry in front in the first minute of the game
but his 25 yard shot struck the base of Andy Dibble's right hand post and flew
into the crowd.
The first half then degenerated and produced few opportunities for either
side.
Coventry tried to step up their game in the second half but Laurent Delorge
fired over the top and then Dibble was at full stretch to save from Lee Mills.
Coventry went close from a couple of goalmouth scrambles but the best chance
fell to Stockport in the 88th minute when Coventry keeper Magnus Hedman need his
legs to save a low shot from Jonathan Daly.
