Kevin Lisbie has reiterated his desire to remain at Colchester, even if the club are relegated.
The U's staved off the inevitable with a 2-0 victory in Saturday's derby against Ipswich, but are already preparing for life in League One next season.
With a dismal season seeing them pick up just six wins, the news that their 16-goal top scorer has pledged his future to the cause has come as a timely boost.
Lisbie arrived on a free transfer from Charlton last summer and has provided a glimmer of hope in an otherwise disappointing campaign.
He has been linked with a potential move to Crystal Palace during the close season, but has insisted that he will remain at Layer Road and attempt to help the club make an immediate return to the Championship.
"No other club wanted to know me in the summer because they were worried about my injury record," he said.
"Colchester were the only club to show faith in me and give me a chance, so I'm not even thinking about leaving yet.
"I know there's not a lot of loyalty in football, but I feel I owe the club a debt of gratitude."
