Teddy Sheringham is close to returning to the Colchester squad ahead of the home game against Coventry.
The 42-year-old former England striker is in full training after a lengthy absence with a foot injury and is hoping to make an appearance before the end of his 25th and final season.
Defender Danny Granville is also on the mend following a groin injury but is unlikely to be risked against the Sky Blues.
Clive Platt came on as a substitute in the 1-1 draw against Leicester last week following a back injury and will challenge Scott Vernon to partner top scorer Kevin Lisbie in attack.
Defender Pat Baldwin, winger Mark Yeates and goalkeeper Aidan Davison (all shoulder) are the Us' only long-term injury absentees.
Coventry manager Chris Coleman is boosted by the news Michael Mifsud will be available for the clash.
Mifsud was forced to miss a couple of days training earlier in the week due to illness.
The Malta international has not scored since December but Coleman is backing the striker to find the net in the last few games of the season.
He told the Coventry Telegraph: "Michael was very ill earlier in the week but he trained on Thursday and will be okay.
"It is not important he has not scored since December, the only thing that is going to help us is if he can nick a goal between now and the end of the season."
Otherwise, Coleman has no new injury worries and is expected to name the same side which lost 2-1 to Stoke last time out.
